The first step to change, is accepting your reality right now. Honoring your process. Compassionate self-awareness leads to change; harsh self-criticism only holds the pattern in place, creating a stubborn and defensive Basic Self. Be gentle with yourself as you would with a child. Be gentle but firm. Give yourself the space to grow. But remember that the timing is in God's hands, not yours. ~Dan Millman~
We all desire to change certain things in our nature or behaviors that we deem to be improper or are not serving us. Continually beating ourselves up regarding the perceived deficiency, only tends to reinforce it and cause us to continue the destructive patterns. Mere acknowledgment of the need is a big step in the right direction. Then, by focusing on positive and constructive self-analysis, and simply allowing new insights, strength and understanding to emerge, the desired change can naturally flow from the process. Give yourself some of the same compassion you extend to others, and let the work be done in God's way and timing.
Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed. ~Proverbs 16:3 (Amp)~ Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think... ~Romans 12:2 (NLT)~ I planted, Apollos watered, but God [all the while] was making it grow and [He] gave the increase. So neither he who plants is anything nor he who waters, but [only] God Who makes it grow and become greater. ~1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (Amp)~
